International Centre Goa launches its first book on South Asia

TOWARDS FREEDOM IN SOUTH ASIA: DEMOCRATIZATION, PEACE AND REGIONAL COOPERATION
The International Centre Goa (ICG) released its first book titled TOWARDS FREEDOM IN SOUTH ASIA: DEMOCRATIZATION, PEACE AND REGIONAL COOPERATION at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The book, the first publication of the Centre in its 10 years of operation, is edited by Dr. V A Pai Panandiker and Dr. Rahul Tripathi.

The book was released by Hon'ble Shri. I K Gujral, former Prime Minister of India. He, and former Chief Justice of India, Justice J V Verma delivered the Keynote Addresses at the conference.

The book is published by Konark Publishers. Dr. Panandiker is former Founder President and Chief Executive of the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) and Vice President and trustee of the ICG while Dr Tripathi is a Faculty at Department of Political Science, Goa University.
The book emphasizes the central role of Human Freedoms in sustaining the future of 1.5 billion people of South Asia. The writers are united in their belief that the people, rather than the state, have to be at the core of the discourse on political, economic and social development.

In his foreword in the book Shri I.K. Gujral said “Build a South Asia, as Europe has done, into a peaceful, cooperative and prosperous subcontinent, built around the freedoms of citizens without trying to alter boundaries. It is a path which is good for both the region and for the world. It is a path worth pursuing by the present and the future generations of the people and the political leaders of South Asia”.
